What Happened Between Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff?
Jack Antonoff has helped Taylor Swift mark her legacy in music for the past decade.
He first stepped onto the scene, producing his first-ever Taylor album in 2014, helping make the album 1989. The success of the album alone solidified his position in Taylor’s music-making circle.
Ever since then, Jack and Taylor seemed like a package deal. Anywhere Taylor went, Jack was right there beside her.
He continued producing the next several albums with Taylor… stopping at The Life of a Showgirl.
After fans and critics alike began to grow tired of the same sound Taylor and Jack had been delivering over the past few albums, Taylor shocked the world when it was announced that her latest Showgirl album would be produced by Max Martin and Shellback—the duo who helped craft 1989.
It seemed very obvious that, after years of giving us indie-modern pop albums with Folklore, Evermore, Midnights, and The Tortured Poets Department, Taylor wanted Showgirl to have the same glitz-and-glam aesthetic and success as 1989.
Rumors of a fallout continued after Jack did a photoshoot with i-D magazine, a publication owned by Karlie Kloss.
Karlie Kloss needs no introduction to the Swiftie fandom as she has helped break them into a group of two: “gaylors” and the anti-Karlie’s.
Some people believe Karlie and Taylor were in a romantic relationship, and in the past, our sources have confirmed that rumor to be true.
Others lean towards disliking and/or hating Karlie because of her friendship with Scooter Braun, Taylor’s enemy.
So when Jack did the cover shoot for i-D and Karlie used the teal and orange colors of the Showgirl album, it sent Swifties over the edge.
A couple of Google searches here and there, and you get a sprinkle of more rumors between Jack and Taylor. Some mention his work with Sabrina Carpenter as a factor, others note that his wife, Margaret Qualley, does not like Taylor, and some note that Jack has shaded Taylor in recent times.
So what really happened?
According to my sources, Taylor wanted to make the Showgirl album, a record-smashing hit, and she didn’t care how pathetic she looked while doing so, because at the end of the day, sales numbers are forever.
Indeed, Taylor went back to Max Martin and Shellback for some help in creating an iconic pop album as they did with 1989.
Reputation was the last album that those two worked on with Taylor. It seems as if their beef took off with that album.
“Taylor has had issues with Max Martin and Shellback for YEARS. Their disagreements have led them to stop working together. As Taylor was releasing albums throughout the years, she got into an era where she wanted writing credits and wanted to solidify herself as a songwriter. She wanted Max Martin and Shellback to be okay with giving her solo writing credits, even if they helped write a song with her. Both of them refused and said, ‘If we help with a song, we ALL get credit.’” — my source
In the past, I’ve made sure to mention to you guys that although Taylor is an incredible songwriter, some of her songwriting isn’t even her own original work. Taylor has used (and probably still uses) ghostwriters.
Knowing Taylor and how much she wanted to solidify herself as a serious songwriter, I can see her trying her hardest to keep songwriting credits limited to one person only.
Taylor wanted to look like a musical genius, at a time when she feared overexposure. It has worked for her since her songwriting is one of the things people often associate with her music and is what helps differentiate her from her peers.
This leads us to her increasing friendship with Jack.
“Jack Antonoff allowed Taylor to have solo writing credits for songs they worked on together. I guess he didn’t mind who got the credit since he was already being praised for his work on the albums by Taylor, her fans, and the general public. He was the one who was more of a friend to Taylor than a business partner, so he let her have it.” —my source
You can tell Taylor and Jack were good friends because of how many years they spent together working on albums, hanging out, and going to award shows.
My source said that Jack had a soft side towards Taylor and would do her bidding for her.
“Because Jack cared about Taylor and was a genuine friend of hers, you could see him getting involved in drama that made him look like a little kid. Whether that was saying ‘going after Taylor’s songwriting is like going after someone’s belief in God’, or it’s him shading Joe Alwyn, Taylor always likes it when a friend is extremely loyal to her.” — my source
LMAOOOOO
My source said that nothing of importance happened between Jack and Taylor besides some of their weird friendship quirks that are already public.
“My guess is, Jack is a little butthurt that Taylor reconciled with Max Martin and Shellback for Showgirl. She was also going around promoting the album under their names, hyping fans up to believe this is the ultimate pop album. One can’t help but be a little butthurt, especially after all the hate Tortured Poets got, that and the fact that everyone started asking ‘is it time Taylor and Jack take a break?’” — my source
Jack felt a little blindsided by Taylor, especially since the last album Max and Shellback worked on was also with Jack.
My source says there aren’t any significant issues with them and that they are currently just in a little pickle/standstill.
Regarding Jack working with Sabrina, aka the next big thing in pop, Taylor isn’t that offended either.
According to my source, Jack and Sabrina are still on the wedding list.
Also, Taylor doesn’t have an issue with Sabrina, but some people think her growing rise to stardom could be a trigger to Taylor since she has expressed in the past her fear of being cast out by Hollywood due to someone younger and newer coming along.
And what she did with Olivia Rodrigo tells me that trigger is alive and well.
“Taylor wants Sabrina at her wedding. And last I heard, Jack’s still getting a wedding invite.” — my source
I know what you guys are thinking: b-b-but what about the magazine cover?
Jack is his own person, Taylor doesn’t own him, and if he wants to do something to help his career, he can do it. Seems like Taylor understands that more than her fans.
“Taylor tries to separate the art from the artist, and tries to understand that people can be their own person without making such a fuss about it. Some wars are not worth winning. Sure, if we really look into it, maybe Jack is taking a dig at Taylor with the magazine and some of the quotes he said, but it’s far-fetched to believe it’s going to be big enough to end their friendship.” —my source
Also, it’s not like Taylor can beef with everyone in Hollywood. She herself has kept in touch with Karlie Kloss, so I think this is one of those things where the fans are more emotionally invested than she is.
“Based on what I know about Taylor and Jack, it just seems like awkward tension with their friendship currently. It’s hard mixing friendships with business, especially for as long as they have been doing it. I can see them both offending each other.” — my source
Regarding Jack’s wife, Margaret, I don’t think she really likes Taylor. Maybe she’s taking her husband’s side, or maybe Taylor is just kind of annoying?
All I’m saying is after that interaction between them at the Grammys, where Margaret kind of ignores Taylor and uses her hair as a border between them, I’m reading the signs.
Also her response to knowing anything about the Showgirl album was kind of funny.

Well, there you have it!
Confirmation that Jack and Taylor are indeed in an awkward/offended era in their friendship. I guess that it mainly has to do with Taylor not asking Jack to be a part of Showgirl and seeking the help of others.
I also think Jack and Margaret are at a point in their careers where they don’t want to be seen as Taylor Swift’s accessories. It seems like the media loves to overshadow anything they do with the mention of Taylor, and I can only imagine how tiring that gets.
Also, you guys have to remember, when Tortured Poets came out, fans were genuinely questioning if they should blame Jack for it. With all the hate that album got, it allowed the general public to poke fun at the rest of the work they came up with.
… and this is a Rolling Stone article
Maybe Jack secretly feels like Taylor listened to the feedback?
Not like she listened that well, though. Showgirl was not loved at first.
Taylor will never diss her albums; she treats them all as the world’s greatest gift, but maybe Jack feels like she lowkey wanted a sound and vision that didn’t come from him.
What do you guys think? I published this post the minute I got this tea, so as always, if there are updates to the story or more information gets revealed to me, I will come back with a part 2!
Hope you enjoyed!
