A surprise breakup followed up with public blackmail: Spilling the tea on Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner divorcing
I felt bad that I came back with a blog schedule super late… talking about old tea while drowning in new tea… so I decided to take a dip into current news drama and talk about Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner.

When TMZ posted on September 3rd that the couple are separated after a hard 6 months and are heading to divorce… the world was shocked.
How when they were just spotted together and posting together on social media?
Well… it’s almost as if what happens in public isn’t exactly telling of what goes on in private.
So allow me to spill the tea.
I believe I briefly talked about Joe & Sophie whenever readers asked about them in the comment section or on ask, but I never got down to making a post about them.
Their Rocky Start
Joe and Sophie started dating in October 2016. They got engaged in October 2017 and married in May 2019.
When they first started dating, I remember a lot of speculation going on about whether or not they were a PR. I even thought they were a PR for a short moment mainly because they were both really thirsty for attention.

Joe was riding the nostalgia train OD and Game of Thrones was about to wrap up, and Sophie needed some relevancy so she didn’t fade away as a cable TV actress.
In 2016, Joe was a hot mess. I remember a source alleging “That man does coke every single day. I’m shocked he’s not in rehab yet.” Like he was MESSY! Messy the way a teenage celebrity gets into drugs.

You wouldn’t expect it from him since he was in his late 20s… approaching 30, and he’s been a marinated veteran in the industry. Usually, the new kids slip up like this.
When Joe & Sophie started dating, that’s when Joe had started to clean up his act. However, they were often seen clubbing together… it almost felt like that’s what they were bonding with at the beginning of their relationship.

His drug problems caused a lot of issues with his brothers, Kevin & Nick, and they basically told him “get your sh!t together or you’re done.”
This is a few years before the official Jonas Brothers reunion in 2019 when they released “Happiness Begins” and Sucker went #1.
They were still chilling with Demi Lovato and Joe was part of DNCE.

Anyway… Sophie and him got together when he was in his clean-up-bad-boy image at the grown age of 27.
Right off the back, I was like this is not a stable relationship because Joe didn’t want commitment. He was still in his partying phase.

I remember hearing a lot about his alleged cheating on Sophie when they first started dating. I believe I told you guys this on ask.
I also recall saying that Sophie pushed him to make the relationship exclusive by telling friends and family that they were dating. She would also go out of her way to make it noticeable on social media.
Instead of having the “what are we?” talk, Sophie just straight up introduced herself as his girlfriend.
And I heard a lot of rumors about how he would cheat when on tour or whenever she wasn’t around.
From what I know, Joe supposedly slipped in and out of a lot from drug problems during his relationship with Sophie. And she knew about it. She would sometimes get his ass in check, but he was the older celebrity who didn’t care much for their relationship meanwhile she wanted them to work out
So it was okay to look the other way when you knew your partner was not going to stop… whether that’s cheating or doing drugs.
As for Sophie, she was a heavy drinker… something that the media is starting to play on nowadays now that Joe practically threw her under the bus in public.
She was always wasted and drinking up the night in the earlier years of their relationship… but from my understanding, that’s what they bonded on! It’s not like he wasn’t doing the same like he’s trying to paint in the media nowadays.
Getting Married & Their Joint Public Image
After they got married in May 2019… their relationship seemed to be the best it ever was. I never heard about cheating or drug usage or anything like that. It truly seemed like they were both on the same page and they wanted the same things.
However, just before the wedding, they almost called it off. Sophie said it was cold feet, but maybe it had more to do with the unstable foundation of the relationship. That should have been a red flag.
Also, Sophie worked hard to push the narrative that Joe was about to propose in the media which kind of felt like she was forcing his hand.
Now as Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra amped up their fake marriage, each brother and their wife was part of the “Revive The Jonas Brothers” campaign.
The Jonas Brothers were marketed in a way that was nostalgic but with a grown-up twist. They wanted to show their grown-up fans—LOOK! Here we are with our wives, new family, babies, and so on.
Perfecting this formula was integral to their return because they could have just easily been looked at as “has-beens riding the nostalgia train” if they were not successful.
And with the wives becoming an important part of the Jonas Brothers’ image—that gave Sophie the security she needed for the relationship as well as the plus to build her public image alongside former-teen heartthrobs.
Therefore, that helped her transition more seamlessly from cable TV actress to other roles… even if they haven’t been as memorable as Game of Thrones.

The Downfall
It wasn’t until 2022 that they started falling apart again. I don’t know what Sophie’s role was, but I was told by a source that Joe started losing interest again and started looking for pleasure elsewhere.
I’m not sure what that means since this is still a developing story and I am still getting tea from sources as well as trying to find old messages and emails that date back to literally 2016.
Now TMZ is reporting that Joe is the one taking care of the kids while on tour:
TMZ also writes, “Joe had his people contact and consult with at least 2 L.A.-area divorce lawyers and he is on the cusp of filing divorce docs to end his marriage to Sophie.”
It’s interesting how HE’S the one filing and ending the marriage first. Notice how the media broke the news 2 days BEFORE he filed for divorce? When you're a public figure, you work hand in hand with the media and slowly roll out the big scene. He could have done this privately but nah, someone was leaking news to the press little by little preparing for the big drop.
TMZ notes how he goes on and off with taking off his ring because he had posted on Instagram just a day before the news broke with his ring.
Even though he wasn’t wearing it on August 11th…
Then again the night after TMZ broke the news that they were separated, fans noticed that he was indeed wearing his ring at his concert on September 3rd.
But it seems like Joe is playing the media game because as he’s going out of his way to frame Sophie as a bad mother… It’s making him look more guilty as he’s basically blackmailing Sophie publicly.

While Sophie is posting that they ended things amicably, Joe has his team releasing a bunch of different stories to TMZ, framing her as a bad mom who is partying too much; leaving him alone to take care of the kids.
One source literally told TMZ: "She likes to party, he likes to stay at home. They have very different lifestyles."
And coincidentally while all these stories are being released, he somehow has the time to go take his kids out for a little photo op.
While the Jonas Brothers have been on tour for the last 3 months, Joe has had the kids almost all the time because Sophie has been in London filming.
TMZ then reported on September 6th, that Joe Jonas saw/heard something with Sophie that was the last straw in his decision to file for divorce, and it involved a ring camera.
Multiple sources who have direct contact with Joe tell TMZ ... Joe had access to a ring cam that he said captured Sophie saying and/or doing something that made him realize the marriage was over.
So it’s suspicious how Joe’s side is releasing a bunch of these sources painting Sophie in a bad light whilst Sophie is posting it’s an amicable divorce. And when TMZ reached out to Sophie’s camp, they had no comment.
It feels like Joe is blackmailing her in the press by exposing that there is SOMETHING caught on the ring cam, but he’s not telling us WHAT.
The media is even jumping on this narrative with Access Hollywood posting on TikTok a video of Sophie dancing with her crew as she wraps up filming, saying “Sophie Turner seen partying prior to divorce announcement.”
This is interesting since Joe was actually known as the party boy and he parties every night on tour, so this is why fans were confused considering the image he’s trying to pin on Sophie, is actually the image people have of him.
Sophie literally called herself a homebody in an interview and said that she struggles to keep up with Joe, the social butterfly. Sophie then went on to reveal that it is actually Joe who enjoys being out all of the time, and that she was grateful for quarantine because she normally struggles to "lock him down."
She even said that she would pour him his tequila and alcohol shots while he did his little DJ livestream… so yeah… the info doesn’t seem to match up.
This begs the question: is Joe trying to hide something by getting his story out first and pinning this whole thing on Sophie? Or is Sophie truly the bad mom he’s painting her as?
My thoughts:
I believe that since Joe and Sophie started off rocky with Joe not wanting to commit and her basically forcing something that is supposed to happen naturally, it was only a little bit of time before it exploded.
They were also at their best when they each had a job for the other’s career. Like when it was the “Jonas Wives” … they were thriving and it had to do with being pitted against Nick & Priyanka — who’s going to be the more powerful celebrity couple?
Oh and Priyanka is gonna love this! Let’s see how she tries to capitalize on this story and make it seem like she and Nick are the perfect couple.
Joe and Sophie have also staged photos in the past despite the fact that they were a real couple. They wanted to benefit their careers at the end of the day

When things were getting reallyyyy rocky for them toward the end of 2022… they ended up selling their Miami home in November 2022.
It feels like they kept the act that everything is fine considering the Jonas Brothers are on tour and the relationships were an integral part of their press tour and revival of their “nostalgic, but grown-up” image.
The Jonas Brothers are also recording content for this tour and with plans to release it eventually… Sophie is in the documentary so I wonder what’s going to happen now… or are they gonna eventually milk it as some tea spill.
One thing that I do not like about the Jonas Brothers is that they don’t have much loyalty to anyone besides themselves. They have no problem throwing anyone under the bus to save their own asses. And this is something that Joe seems to have been doing since the beginning of time.
He even tried to pin him doing weed for the first time on Miley Cyrus & Demi Lovato who were younger than him when he told Vulture Magazine in 2013, that they kept telling him “try it try it!”
And now with him running to the media through his publicist to paint Sophie in a bad light… well that says a lot about his character.
“The reason why he’s throwing Sophie under the bus in public has to do with legality issues surrounding their divorce. Something about child support or custody. I’m not too sure but it can get really messy. That’s the main reason why he wanted to secure himself as the golden partner in the media. It’s skeevy.” — my source about the latest news.
What do you guys think?
I’m not saying either party is innocent, but when you go out of your way to paint someone in a negative light, it seems like you’re guilty. From what I heard in 2022, Joe was ready to give up on his marriage as he became bored of it, and now in 2023, he’s making excuses.
Maybe Sophie has hidden skeletons that we haven’t heard of, but I don’t think I’m leaning toward favoring the man who married a girl a lot younger than him, who told her to go love herself more than she loves him, and then suddenly starts giving up on their marriage 2 kids later as she tries to do things for her career after playing up his career image for so long.
this doesn’t sound that healthy … but i mean told you guys that she was more invested in him than he was in her and the fact that he so bodly told her “love yourself more than you love me” is giving narcissist lol (maybe it’s not that deep?)
