Inside Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber’s Bitter Feud: The Instagram Unfollow

For years, the Internet has tried to prove that Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber have it out for one another. In moments where they want their fave to shine, fan bases will spread agendas about how one woman is more supportive than the other. In other cases, you will try to be convinced that one is obsessed with the other.

What if I told you that both Selena and Hailey don’t like each other? The real question here is: why would they?

Even though this post was drafted in April… both Selena and Hailey unfollowing each other on Instagram in June 2025, is confirmation of their tension.

From what I know, they can’t stand each other and for good reason. So let’s all put the toxic positivity to the side and take a moment and connect with real life for a second.

Let’s not pretend that we don’t get jealous or bothered by someone who has something we want. Most people, whether they admit it or not, live in a constant loop of comparison and quiet envy.

Selena and Hailey have both found themselves in that space at different points in their lives.

While the Internet will tell you “maybe we should blame the man, it’s always the man who’s the problem,” and tea—while girls can be catty, a man can be the devil, but I’m not here to discuss gender roles and who’s worse.

I’m here to tell you specifically about Hailey and Selena—2 topics I’ve covered for the better half of a decade and 2 people who definitely know who I am.

This will be a combination of information throughout the years. If you go back in time on this blog, you’ll find our tea playing out in real-time. What sources have said was happening in 2014, 2015, etc., is actually happening now, and everything is playing out exactly as we said it would.

Why Hailey Can’t Stand Selena

Hailey has been the underdog most of her life. She wasn’t a Jenner and was always in the shadows of them growing up.

She wasn’t a famous musician with a die-hard fan base ready to sacrifice their morals for a viral lie.

But one thing my source always told me about Hailey is that she is extremely smart. She doesn’t chase instant gratification. Her mindset has always been: “How do I win the long game?”

She landed the man the world thought would never settle down, especially given his history of short-lived flings. And despite the odds, she built a billion-dollar brand in under three years.

Is she truly this unbothered “everything-comes-easy-for-me” type of person? No.

When Hailey and Justin were friends turned into almost lovers, there was one main obstacle: Selena Gomez.

Selena’s presence made Hailey insecure. Not because of who Selena was to Justin at the time, but because Selena never really left the picture. She had history with him. She had leverage.

And at some point, Selena had a kind of influence where she could snap her fingers and everything would bend to her will.

Selena could say and do almost anything without facing consequences. Hailey, on the other hand, had to tread lightly. The tiniest move she made was magnified and picked apart—while Selena’s biggest moments often slid under the radar.

Selena rage baiting.

That imbalance came from Justin himself. He gave Selena that power, and for a long time, it kept Hailey in the backseat.

But here’s the twist: while Hailey may have overestimated Selena, Selena underestimated Hailey.

To Selena, Hailey was always the “silly little girl,” someone easily dismissed. That same dismissive energy is echoed in how Selena’s fans treat Hailey to this day. But what drives them crazy is simple: Hailey keeps getting exactly what she sets out to get.

Don’t hold your breath.

The core reason Hailey can’t stand Selena today? It’s simple: Selena keeps popping up—like clockwork—and every time, she brings chaos.

Whether it’s subtle shade, well-timed victim narratives, or just conveniently resurfacing during Hailey’s milestones, Selena always manages to stir the pot. She provokes the hate trains, plays the soft-spoken victim just enough to spark outrage, and continues to take up far too much space in a marriage she’s not part of.

And while Justin’s recklessness is a big issue, both Hailey and Selena kept going back and playing the game, so the headache they got… they went looking for.

Now, while Hailey and Justin’s relationship hasn’t been perfect, what has remained consistent is their commitment. People love to ask, “If he’s not happy, why doesn’t he leave her?”

But let’s not rewrite history: Justin had zero issue walking away from situations, people, and even himself post-Selena. If he didn’t want this life with Hailey, he’d be gone. Simple.

And for a long time, Selena was meddling in their relationship and trying to get close to anyone who knew a crumb about them.

It’s funny how no one blinked when Selena got with Benny—a longtime producer and friend of Justin and Hailey’s.

And it’s this double standard that Hailey sees. She sees the way Selena has tried to leverage the media in her favor and she can’t escape her.

As I mentioned in the Bieber smear campaign, a source told me in 2021 that Selena’s team was actively paying to keep Jelena stories circling in the media. The fact that 7 years of marriage haven’t killed the virus that is Jelena should be enough evidence that someone is oiling the machine behind the scenes.

The difference between Selena and Hailey is that Hailey never wanted the smoke. She knew that the public favored Selena and that she was more relevant and richer (something that Hailey may dethrone soon), so she was always building quietly.

Same thing with her relationship to Justin in 2014. She didn’t go out of her way to publicize her relationship to the point where the general public didn’t know how serious and deep it was because there was no evidence of it. It’s also how we got Hailey’s attention in 2016 and she followed us.

We were the only source telling you that no, she’s not another Yovanna, Chantel, or Barbara; this is the real deal. Everyone clowned us then, they clowned her now, and now look.

Building in private is the key.

Hailey plays the long game. And Selena? Selena narrates every emotion in real time, posts through every breakdown, and leaves a trail of receipts in her wake. That’s why the cracks show. That’s why her tactics are backfiring.

To summarize, the main reason Hailey doesn’t like Selena is not because of her history with Justin, but because Selena has become a public enemy in her life.

She’s not just an ex; she’s a shadow that won’t go away. A ghost that keeps reappearing every time Hailey tries to move forward.

Selena has made a habit of dragging Hailey back into the past and planting seeds of doubt and insecurity in a marriage that has nothing to do with her anymore.

At the end of the day, Hailey’s issue with Selena isn’t about jealousy or competition—it’s about the ongoing interference. Whether intentional or not, Selena’s presence has continuously stirred drama, shaped public perception, and made Hailey’s life harder than it needed to be.

This isn’t about who's more famous or who had him first. It’s about someone trying to live her life without constantly being dragged back into someone else’s narrative. Hailey isn’t perfect—but she’s not the villain, either.

Why Selena Can’t Stand Hailey

Selena’s never been the slow-burn “lemme take a breath first” type of person. She’s impulsive, emotional, and lives in the now. While Hailey plays the long game, Selena reacts in real time.

That intensity is what bonded her to Justin for years—they fed off each other’s chaos until it eventually blew up, as most toxic dynamics do.

Selena sees Hailey as someone who took everything she once had and she has a deep regret for not enjoying the past as much as she could’ve.

There’s a reason Selena constantly circles back to her golden era—the throwbacks, the photos, the subtle nods to her 2015/2016 self. She’s trying to recreate a version of her that she once hated, but now romanticizes.

Her looks, her stardom, her energy… everything was magnetic about her.

She used to hate that Selena, she said it herself—those were some of the most depressing times of her life.

She was coked out (well she didn’t say that part) and living in a state of dissociation.

She was constantly seeking external validation, while Hailey would seek internal validation (getting public approval vs. winning in private).

She was her own worst critic and villain and she has a lot of regrets.

She also blames Hailey for a big chunk of it. Whether it’s shade on TikTok, cryptic posts, or media puppeteering, she knows what she’s doing. She’s gone from fighting Justin to projecting it all onto Hailey.

It’s always very interesting when people pretend like what Selena has done in public doesn’t exist.

The public gives Selena a pass because she’s built her brand around vulnerability and victimhood. But at a certain point, constantly rehashing the past stops being relatable and starts being manipulative.

When I see Selena Gomez… I see a woman who refuses to take accountability for her actions and has always incited hate. She sees those losses in private, even if she’s winning in the public eye. She knows what I’m talking about.

Take her relationship with Benny, for example. It’s high-profile, curated, and she’s clearly the star while he plays the role of obsessed sidekick.

That was the dream she used to have with Justin—being a power couple, dropping a joint album, dominating headlines together.

So anyone who threatened that fantasy, namely Hailey, became the enemy in her eyes.

What really ruined Selena and Justin’s relationship—aside from the chaos we all saw—was the public pressure and Selena’s inability to handle not being the star. She needed to be the one adored, chased, and praised.

That’s why she’d like shady posts that downplayed Justin’s success or propped her up. She was always insecure about the relationship, her image, and her place in the industry.

And she still is.

So when someone she saw as a nobody—a “loser,” in her mind—came in and took her spot, not just in Justin’s life but also in the industry, it hit every nerve of not being good enough. That pain of “she took everything from me” turned into “I need to take everything from her.”

Every single time Hailey starts to thrive publicly (better engagement, positive attention, growing fanbase), Selena conveniently reappears with a moment, a message, or a media play that shifts the spotlight and restarts the hate train.

Seriously, go look at Hailey’s tiktok likes and you’ll notice that whenever Hailey is thriving and easily racking up millions of likes, Selena will do something that will initiate/provoke the hate train and suddenly Hailey’s engagement starts suffering and she goes from getting 3 million likes to 127k.

When Hailey thrives, Selena seethes. When Selena thrives, Hailey doesn’t care—because she already secured the life she wanted: the marriage, the brand, the empire. She’s not stuck in the past. Selena is.

This is evident by Selena having a response to anything Hailey does.

Hailey used to care—no one’s denying that. But at this point? She’s in her prime. She’s thriving in her career, her brand is booming, and she’s fully secured her spot.

Hailey hopes that the more Selena succeeds (building Rare, getting engaged) the more she’ll finally leave her alone.

Meanwhile, Selena’s too busy romanticizing a version of herself from a decade ago. That’s the real tension: one woman is moving forward, the other is stuck looking back.

In May after Hailey announced that she was pregnant, Selena reflected on her time being single yet again and told TIME Magazine that she “was alone for five years” and “Then I came up with my plan, which was I was going to adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone.”

This seemed odd to many because Selena began discussing her desire to have children shortly after Hailey announced her pregnancy.

Then August 22nd came around and Jack Blues Bieber was born…

Just 2 weeks later on  September 9th, Selena told Vanity Fair “I haven’t ever said this, but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s life in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”

She then said that she’s “in a much better place” now despite thinking she would become a parent saying “the way it happens for everyone.” Hmm… I wonder who.

She elaborated, saying that both surrogacy and adoption are huge possibilities for her because she’s dying to be a mom and she’s excited for that journey, saying “At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”

After going on that whole spiel… she then randomly tells the interviewer, “I’m not changing my name no matter what. I am Selena Gomez. That’s it.”

Like girl what… you cannot tell me that wasn’t Bieber shade because tell me how she went on a whole rant about how badly she wants to be a mom “the way it happens for everyone” and then out of the blue (get it?) kinda throws shade at people who change their last name after getting married… the way Hailey did.

There’s reading into things and then there’s suspiciously close timing.

What confirms to me that her Vanity Fair talk about wanting to be a mom and not changing her name after Hailey gave birth 2 weeks prior was intentional… is the fact that she started off the sentence saying “I haven’t ever said this, but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children.”

Selena Gomez wearinh white and black dress for Time Magazine photoshoot, orange background.

That’s a lie. She first revealed in her November 2022 documentary My Mind & Me that she may not be able to carry children.

She elaborated on that in a 2022 Rolling Stone interview, saying that she “likely” won't be able to carry children of her own due to her bipolar medication and “That's a very big, big, present thing in my life," but there are options, like surrogacy or adoption.

She spoke about it a lot and it was heavily covered by the media that is now drowned out by Selena’s revelation that 2 weeks after Baby Bieber was born… this is the first time she’s talking about it.

And Selena is STILL at it.

Rhode announces that they have been acquired by ELF in a massive $1 billion deal?

Rare Beauty tweets the following:

Rare Beauty's tweet shading Rhode after Elf bought Hailey's company.

“Still here” basically saying, Selena still owns Rare Beauty, unlike Hailey… which isn’t even true. This deal will just make Rhode bigger and all brands are usually bought by another parent company.

If anything… Rare Beauty is reportedly struggling to find buyers.

After being dragged, Rare Beauty deleted the tweet.

As you can see, Selena has a response or a reaction to everything Hailey does in public, but you won’t ever catch Hailey shading Selena.

And yet, the media keeps pushing this tired narrative that Hailey’s the one obsessed with Selena. Maybe that was true once, back when everything was new and messy. But now? That storyline’s outdated. No one’s chasing Selena anymore. Her It Girl era ended, and the only one still clinging to it is her.

The fact that they’re both in the same beauty space is basically them saying “we meet again, old friend.”

There is competition between them and their brands. Of course, each individual wants to do better than the other, but Selena actively wants to take Hailey down, hence being the reason why Rhode didn’t get into Sephora sooner (per Puck News).

The Instagram Unfollow

As of June 2025, Selena and Hailey no longer follow each other on Instagram.

Screenshot showing Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber no longer following each other on Instagram.

If you ask me, they never should have followed each other in the first place. But it was just some PR thing to shut the Internet up like “look… I swear, we don’t mind each other.” But they mind as I spilled in this post.

People think that Selena unfollowed Hailey first because of Rare Beauty shading Rhode and after it was alleged that Selena DMed Hailey out of her sweet big heart after Justin hijacked Hailey’s Vogue cover moment, rambling about a fight that literally no one asked him about.

DeuxMoi claims Selena DM’d Hailey after Justin’s Vogue drama, Hailey accidentally opened the message, freaked out, and called Kylie Jenner.

How would anyone even know how Hailey’s thumbs maneuvered on her phone? What is this — CSI: Calabasas?

But apparently, that DM is what prompted Selena’s “you matter” post.

And it shouldn’t come as a shock that Selena doesn’t mind her business.

I can see Selena unfollowing Hailey first because like I said… she is more reactive. She wants public reaction and validation. Hailey is willing to swallow it and roll her eyes in private. I don’t see Hailey being the one behind the soft block and it’s usually Selena who is unfollowing friends and associates to prove a point.

What now?

The fact that Selena & Benny’s album includes songs that feel like direct shots at Hailey—like How Does It Feel to Be Forgotten—and even features an AI voice of Justin on Talk, shows clearly that one side is fueling the media drama, while the other is busy crafting a new narrative.

Justin has bigger demons to slay than Selena, but everyone equates every problem in his life to Selena. Maybe that was the case in 2018 when he rushed into things with Hailey despite just being seen with Selena, but so much has changed since then and Selena and the general public don’t see that.

Justin Bieber yelling at paparazzi in June 2025, wearing a blue hoodie. It's not clocking to you that I'm standing on business.

He has his mental health to deal with, falling out with everyone in his former team, trying to get back at Scooter, a new baby, and yet people think Selena is a factor. She definitely used to be—there is no denying that, but this is a new chapter now and the only person turning the pages back is Selena.

Justin Bieber posts text messages on Instagram saying that he is traumtized and angry.

The fact that I wrote this post 2 months ago and Justin keeps on proving what I’m telling you is happening.

In the past, Selena was the IT Girl and Hailey was a loser chasing Justin. Now Justin is sitting back with confidence that Hailey got everything figured out and she got a billion dollar empire she’s building, and that’s not a reality Selena is trying to accept.

She’s trying to live vicariously through this new relationship with Benny and is doing everything she once said she hated—like complaining about PDA right after Justin and Hailey were all about PDA.

Selena Gomez saying she thinks PDA is cringy in January 2020.

And yet Selena now:

You have to let go or be dragged.

Well, that’s all for this post! I hope you guys enjoyed it. Let me know what you think in the comments and what other posts you’d like to see!
