Demi Lovato announces new Holy Fvck era and tours theaters... is Scooter Braun out to get her? Celebrities and tours...
I’ll give it to Demetria, she knows how to tease an era. Without a doubt, she always drags me back in!
Even after I said never again after she broke my heart during the Dancing With The Devil era by hyping it to be this huge comeback only to throw it in the trash to talk about aliens and vibrators… I am back.
Why? Because there’s one thing you can’t deny about Demi Lovato and that’s her artistry.
Before I get into this post, be sure to check out my latest blog+life update here about the upcoming schedule and watch my new video about Demi that went up today that’s a recap of the past few months.
I talked about Demi’s updated pronouns (they/them/she/her) and her upcoming lead single, Skin Of My Teeth, alongside the trailer for her new album, Holy Fvck.
Why is she touring theaters?
Ah, the million dollar question.
Demi announced the Holy Fvck tour which is going to span from August until November.
If you look at Demi’s track record history, she has an impressive touring record. She makes millions in one night, she usually doesn’t have an issue selling out arenas, and her box office gross is pretty solid.
So why is she going backward in her career by touring theaters?
Not gonna lie… when I checked out tickets for NY and I saw that I was looking at theaters as opposed to Barclays Center or MSG, I was like hUH?
So I talked to my source and she said that because Demi is completely changing genres to the point where she’s not moving WITH her old hits, but instead is tossing them, they can’t risk touring arenas for an audience that knows Demi for her pop music.
My source tells me that right now they are not planning to perform Demi’s old songs, but there’s a discussion going about performing her older hits in a rock version. So you’d have a rock version of Sorry Not Sorry, Cool For The Summer, and so on.
Obviously, this is all subject to change, but that’s the plan right now.
Because she literally buried her popstar persona where she initially found the mainstream success with, it’s like she’s a new artist.
On top of that, Demi’s recent stats haven’t been that hot. She hasn’t gotten a mainstream hit as of lately and the demand isn’t there right now. Her team is hoping that with this new era, she’s going to find an audience for her rock genre and that’s why they’re starting off slow with theaters as opposed to arenas.
The last time Demi toured was literally 4 years ago and that was an extremely successful tour because it was being carried on the backs of mainstream hits such as Sorry Not Sorry, Tell Me You Love Me, and so on.
Considering Demi’s last era with I Love Me and Dancing With The Devil didn’t have much mainstream success, they really can’t promise that they’re going to pull off arenas.
Plus, you don’t want Demi to have a Fifth Harmony type of situation where in their second era, they started performing in arenas but were only selling out theater capacities.
For example, they performed at the London O2 Arena which has a capacity of around 20k but only filled like 5k seats. That was embarrassing because they literally blocked out and covered huge areas of the arena with black curtains just so they can say they performed at the O2.
The arena was barely full and shows had to be canceled for “scheduling conflicts” or even get downsized…
It was truly a mess because they knew that the 7/27 tour was going to be their last tour together since Camila was about to dip and they were competing with Little Mix so they wanted to do the arena capacities that they were doing but instead filled 1/8th of the arena.
I think about that like once every 5 months.
Back to Demi…
Usually, when an artist does a genre change, they either start performing at festivals or theaters or don’t tour at all.
For example, when Miley Cyrus did her whole rock era, she didn’t go on an official headlining tour. Instead, she did a lot of festivals and random shows here and there.
When Selena Gomez did her Lana Del Rey impression in 2017, she didn’t tour or perform at all actually. Time travelers from 2029 tell me that she hasn’t toured since.
The point is, you can’t risk it, especially when there is no solid demand. A lot of labels fall into the trap of viral social media tweets thinking that that shows demand when in reality, it doesn’t. A viral tweet or a viral post doesn’t promise that those people who are retweeting or liking a post, will purchase a ticket or an album.
Do I think this is a smart move?
Demi always goes backward in life.
Whether it’s with her career choices, life choices, or anything in general, she always moves backward. It’s a huge flaw and it comes with her impulsiveness and always quickly moving on.
I think this is going to be an incredible era if done correctly. It could solidify Demi as a rock artist and who knows? This could be the era where Demi succeeds in acclaim, Grammy wins, and so on.
My only fear is whether or not Demi wants to be a rock star for the rest of her career since she is passionate about pop music and ballads and all of that.
This could be an expiermenetal era like Miley did with the Dead Petz album, but either way, Demi is doing things right now because she WANTS to and not because she’s looking for commercial success.
Demi was actively looking for commercial+chart success during the era of Cool For The Summer and Sorry Not Sorry. And guess what? She succeeded. She got the numbers, the radio plays, the platinum plaques, the sold-out arenas; she got them.
This rock era isn’t about commercial success. If Demi was still about that life, she would have released Met Him Last Night with Ariana Grande.
Btw, that music video was never released or even fully finished because Demi’s image was sh!t at the time and Ariana did not want to associate with Demi. I’m not saying Ariana and Demi aren’t friends, but one thing about Ariana is that she’s going to look out for Ariana before anyone else.
Is Scooter Braun out to get her?
The only thing Scooter Braun is out to get is money.
He knew Demi’s ass was a handful when he signed her on. He’s not shocked considering he’s used to dealing with mess central™️ aka Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.
Demi doesn’t make life easy because she’s impulsive. Did you see the way she tossed the Dancing With The Devil era?
MY GOD… I literally need therapy to get over it. Like please if you wanna sponsor my BetterHelp subscription, please email me.
Scooter’s job is to try to make the most out of whatever his artist is doing. Many people think he’s a bad manager because he doesn’t manage correctly, but the thing about Scooter is, that he’s a veteran in the industry.
His managing style works best with already established artists.
Don’t get me wrong, he will put his life on the line to help an artist get their big break I mean he was fighting for his life trying to make Tori Kelly happen but the people were not having it.
Are his ways a little outdated? Yeah… sometimes, but also he gives his artists a lot of creative freedom which is a good and bad thing at the same time.
Artists like Demi are hard to control creatively because they’re not new debut artists looking for commercial success. They already got commercial success.
Scooter and Justin were able to establish even more commercial success for the Justice era because Justin complied. When R&B wasn’t bringing in the numbers they wanted, they quickly went back to the drawing board and released Justice.
So that’s Demi and Scooter. Have they clashed and butt heads? Of course. But at the end of the day, Demi isn’t some newbie artist and she won’t record music she doesn’t want to. This isn’t 2013 anymore.
Is she sober?
According to my source, Demi relapsed a few times after her latest rehab stint. I don’t know where she’s at right now, nor do I want to know.
The new era
I already talked about this in my youtube video, but in a nutshell, I am extremely excited for Rock Demi. Aside from the therapy that I need because of Demi, I am a huge fan of Demi the artist.
Veteran readers know that my go-to genre is rock so for one of my favorite pop stars to do rock is basically a 2 for 1 special. I already heard the snippets of the album and I have no doubt that it’s gonna be an amazing album.
Demi always has amazing albums. As for correctly executed eras? Hmm… no, but as for bops? Oh yeah… holy fvck indeed.
I hope you guys enjoyed this post. Let me know what you guys think in the comments down below. Are you excited about Holy Fcvk? What are your thoughts on Demi as a person? Spill your little hearts in the comment section because I’ll be looking forward to reading and replying.
