Notice something different with Selena’s music style/genre and IMAGE?
For the past couple of years, Selena’s image changed as well as her music being released. And this happens to fluctuate here and then so here’s the tea.
Note: Half of this post was written last year, pre-Abelena-breakup and the other half was finished now. So if it ever comes off as we are talking as back in 2017, that’s why.
People have noticed that Selena has randomly taken a new approach with her new era. This time her new era is comparable to Lana Del Rey and Melanie Martinez. A lot of people in my ask box where wondering why Selena has suddenly taken a 1980′s risky vibe. Two words to explain: The Weeknd.
It’s not uncommon in Hollywood for someone to try new things to bring in different audiences. Changing up your image is something everyone in Hollywood has done. Her peers are great examples: Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, and Taylor Swift, have all taken different approaches with their music and image.
However, with Selena she’s always been consistent with her pop EDM songs… except this time around.
If you guys have noticed Selena’s music has changed from Revival consisting of up beat songs to this weird era of Selena releasing songs that sound nothing like her usual upbeat EDM pop songs.
It went Revival (2015) to Bad Liar (2017) to Fetish (2017) to Wolves (2017) to Back to You (2018).
Yes It Ain’t Me, a pop EDM hit was released in February 2017, but that was started in 2016 (before the Abelena contract) and had to be released sometime. It does not reflect the 2017 timeline since it was finished in 2016.
Some of you may be wondering why there was a sudden change between Fetish and Bad Liar to Wolves and Back to You.
During this era, Selena’s dating The Weeknd, and therefore she would want to have the sexiest-Bangerz era she could have, since she is dating Mr. I can make that pussy rain, often.
That’s exactly what Selena’s team is doing but it’s less obvious. Why is Selena trying to be Lana Del Rey/Melanie Martinez? She wants The Weeknd’s audience. She’s trying to appeal to people that listen to R&B/alternative music.
Why? Because her tween audience isn’t buying her music anymore.
I’ve told you guys months before Selena released any music that she’s going to try and have a really sexy era.
And she is, you guys just aren’t realizing it yet.

Basically what those screenshots said was since Selena was “dating” Abel at the time, Selena’s team wanted to change up Selena’s music style to fit Abel’s “bad boy” look. They wanted her to take a Lana Del Ray turn with her music.
Makes sense since Lana Del Ray seems like the female version of Abel. They both sing about very similar stuff and it’s always very sexual and sultry. They wanted “Ms. Disney” to become the sexy sultry girl that The Weeknd was dating.
Another reason for this was because they wanted to appeal to Abel’s fans. They thought oh if The Weeknd has all this success from people who enjoy his type of music then Selena should switch her style so his fans can hop on her new *sultry* music.
BAD LIAR
Selena released Bad Liar on May 18. She started promoting the song in an exotic way. Unlike her other song, Fetish, Bad Liar’s really exotic theme comes from the music video.
It’s a music video that takes place in the 80′s about a young teen girl crushing on her volleyball coach who is also a girl.
I’ll give it to Selena, it was an interesting idea having her play all the characters.
Many of you are probably rolling your eyes right now but yes, being a celebrity and hinting things that you might be bisextual is very controversal. Also, Selena is bisexual as we have told you in 2013, but that’s a different story.
First of all, Selena’s a disney girl.
People expect Disney girls to be very well mannered and TRADITIONAL.
So by Selena throwing little signs that she may be bisexual, that will cause controversy in the “good girl” image she pretended to have for many years.
Besides controversy and headlines, Selena’s new “I’m-a-little-gay” music video will bring her a new more exotic audience rather than her tweener audience.
Second of all, it’s a fact that lesbians and bisexual girls are sexualized!
It’s not a great thing, but it’s the truth. So Selena hinting that she’s bisexual, is a fetish for some.
So Bad Liar is more of a sexy image because of the music video concept rather than the lyrics.
Obviously if Selena’s trying to appeal to The Weeknd’s fans, she’s going to have to be more risky/sexy.
Let’s move on to Selena’s other song.
FETISH
Selena gave a little sneak peak of Fetish in the very end of her Bad Liar music video.
She officially released the song on July 13 and contrary to popular belief promoted it all over New York.
The Fetish music video and lyrics all scream “I’m-a wannabe-Lana Del Rey.”
First of all, the word Fetish is an exotic word that many relate to porn. Many countries would publicly censor words like that because it’s an “inappropriate” word. Tumblr won’t even let me look up gifs tagged with the word “fetish.”
Also, the entire music video consisted of her putting things in her mouth? Like hello, what?!
A lot of people relate a fetish with some sort of BDSM sexual act they’re into and this is what this video hints at.

Second of all the lyrics are highkey exotic.. if the music video wasn’t exotic enough.
I’m not surprised, I sympathize, ah, I can’t deny, Your appetite, ah
You got a fetish for my love I push you out and you come right back
Don’t see a point in blaming you If I were you, I’d do me too
Something about me Got you hooked on my body, Take you over and under and twisted up like origami.
So yes the lyrics are considering “inappropriate” and i’m sure Disney won’t be playing this song on their channel anytime soon.
Did releasing these wannabe-Lana songs work? lmaooo no. Once again, another thing Selena is related to fails.
Selena also never performed these songs live so it’s not like she was doing it for the “music.” The music videos were very odd.. but they were cool concepts. Not my cup of tea, but it was something different.
Abel’s fans actually couldn’t stand Selena and instead of hopping on the new and improved sultry Selena, they just went back to begging for Bella Hadid, his old girlfriend.
They even tried to make Selena look risky by posting teasing stuff on instagram about Abel.
They started to make her dress very sexy to the point where people actually thought Selena was purposely trying to copy Bella since she isn’t really a flashy dresser.
My sis looks hot BUT THE FACTS ARE THE FACTS.
Her team changed up her image to suit the current PR she was doing. Welcome to the industry!
Not only did Selena’s wannabe Lana songs flopped, you wanna know what else flopped?
So not only did the relationship flop….so did her wannabe Lana songs….okay.
So what does Selena do the second her relationship with Abel is over? (Actually she did this before anything with them was confirmed.)
She goes back to her fame machine, JUSTIN BIEBER.
Now that Selena got back with Justin (at the time) she is also back to her shitty music aka the ones that do well aka mainstream.
Which leads us to the pop beat songs such as Wolves and Back To You.
Her entire look in the videos changed as well. In “Back To You” she’s back to the same old innocent girlie that is associated with Justin Bieber.
So basically in conclusion, Selena’s music style changed because she was with The Weeknd and her team wanted her to appeal to The Weeknd’s fans and his image but all of that flopped so Ms. Disney went back to her orginial plans which is sucking fame out of Justin and going back to making music that is very mainstream and EDM like.
Why does her music reflect who she dates? It’s Hollywood dahling. It’s all fake.
