Rihanna HATES doing music: Her Halftime Performance at the Super Bowl? Mid or Pregnancy?
Rihanna has been one of the most hyped up musicians of the last few years and part of the reason has to do with her releasing hit after hit and then abruptly disappearing from the music industry out of nowhere.
And here’s the thing… the more a celebrity is secretive and private, the more demand there will be because when the celebrity finally appears, it almost feels like an exclusive gift.
So when it was announced that Rihanna was doing the Super Bowl halftime performance, everyone was HYPED because everyone knows that halftime performances go hard.
Before we begin, let me know in the comments what you thought of her performance and her pregnancy announcement which was basically her looking into the camera as she rubbed her belly.
I watched the Super Bowl live—not because I had any idea what was going on, but because I was at a Super Bowl party so I have first-hand reactions of everyone watching Rihanna’s Halftime Performance.
Right away, she’s walking out and the outfit heavily emphasizes her stomach that’s clearly round and everyone in the room was like “is she pregnant???”
Honestly, I didn’t think she would be pregnant so that was a shock to me considering she just gave birth last May and I didn’t hear from any sources that she’s trying for another baby. I’ll talk about this later in the post.
First, let’s talk about the performance and then I’ll give you some tea on Rihanna.
Rihanna’s Halftime Performance
Watching it with a big group of people at a party, the people were not impressed for some reason. If anything, I was nicer with my comments than they were.
Everyone was like “that’s it?”
“She’s standing in one spot.”
“This is boring.”
“She looks so uninterested.”
“She’s so lazy.”
Personally, I thought the performance was okay. Halftime performances are usually super hype, flashy, in your face, and they got the whole crowd up and dancing. It’s not a regular performance.
Even though Rihanna’s performance was nice and aesthetically pleasing, it was giving VMAs level and not the massive grand scale that is expected of the halftime performance.
I liked the dancers, the choreography, and even the whole Rihanna flying in the sky segment where she was high up on the stage. My fear of heights could never, let alone pregnant.
For example, the above tweet saying she did all of this while pregnant… she really didn’t move much… don’t get me wrong, it’s one of my favorite parts of the performance but she really didn’t do anything special here.
The production of the performance and the dancers are who carried the performance. She was often just singing toward the dancers but not doing much.
But I think the main reason why people may have been very uninterested by her performance is due to her looking bored while performing.
She said it herself, it was her first time taking the stage in 7 years and it was scary.
But you could tell she had no passion on the stage. Like I said, she did good, but I’ve seen her more enthusiastic and charismatic on the stage.
The fact that she chose to announce her pregnancy by doing a slow choreo routine, shows me that she wanted that to take the heat off the criticism of the performance because now… we inserted a new factor to judge her performance… the fact that she’s pregnant so people will undoubtedly go easy on her.
Shortly afterward, her reps confirmed to People that she is expecting her second child. Then, this photo was posted, but idk who posted it. I asked yall on Twitter and no one had an answer.
I would have hoped for a few surprise guest performances to make the whole thing more hype, but that didn’t pan out.
I don’t think it was a bad performance by any means, but I expected more PERSONALITY at least. For the most part, she just walked around the stage looking very uninterested while glaring into my soul as she looked at the camera.
However, ESMG readers already know why Rihanna looks dead inside while performing and that’s because she hates doing music… something I told yall 2 years ago!
Let’s spill the tea.
On the topic of music, I’ve been saying it for almost 2 years now. She hates it and she doesn’t want to do it. If her actions as of late aren’t proof of that, I don’t know what is.
Now it’s funny because she did an interview before her halftime performance and they asked about her new era and music and she basically hinted at having a lot of material to work with and taking a whole new different approach to music.
I was reading the transcript and rolling my eyes because I knew damn well she wasn’t releasing anything after the performance nor was she going to announce an album or tour like many people were expecting.
I was asked about this in September and I said she’s not releasing anything and if she does, it’ll be at most a Greatest Hits album because that’s easy to compile.
And even that seems to have been scrapped because her team was doing a lot of promotion after she was announced as a performer, hyping up fans into thinking she’s releasing something.
One source tells me, “Her team expected her to release a body of work sometime after the performance to capitalize on this huge milestone. A lot of people are let down that instead of working with another artist to liven up the show or at least release something, she chose to announce her pregnancy instead and deter away from that. It’s still iconic though, but her team wanted her to be back because that’s what she was telling them.
At the time when this performance was in talks, they thought they would use this performance to kickstart her next era and she seemed on board with the idea. It makes me wonder if the slot would have went to someone else”
Now another source tells me that there were issues with the performance during rehearsals with constant change-ups and last-minute decisions being put in place.
Apparently, there were supposed to be guests with her but that didn’t pan through.
This was heavily discussed all summer last year… there were talks of Jay Z, DJ Khaled, Beyonce possibly, Jennifer Hudson, ASAP Rocky, and so much more. There was a lot of heavy conversation about it and she even hinted at having a guest… now many people are saying the “guest” was the baby.
On the other hand… motherhood saved Rihanna’s sanity. She loves being a mother and more than anything and she loves being away from the music industry.
Kinda like Kylie Jenner, having a baby gave Rihanna purpose… as cliche as this may sound.
Now OG veteran readers remember when what we used to say about Rihanna… she was always in some sh!t with Dark Hollywood type of trouble.
So she’s more than happy to be away from all of that.
For as long as I can remember, Rihanna and performing wasn’t something she loved to do and I’ve been saying this since 2016.
So to hear that there was some trouble going on behind the scenes with her performance is on brand for her, whether or not you believe that.
There were multiple reports that rehearsals weren’t going so well and one of my sources confirms that to me. And Rihanna, knowing that there wasn’t any heavy choreography in her performance, got lazy to even rehearse and according to one of my sources, they moved around a lot of rehearsals and did some without her.
“It was pulling teeth trying to get her to enjoy the fact that she’s doing this huge show and get her there on time or there in general,” one of my sources said.
On the other hand… she is very excited about having another baby. I heard an unconfirmed rumor late last year of Rihanna doing drugs so it makes me think that baby #2 was possibly unplanned… What do you guys think?
As for her relationship with ASAP Rocky… yeah that’s not stable at all, but they’re also not broken up. I heard a few stories about them hooking up with different people last year. Open relationship perhaps?
Oh… and Taylor Swift was never asked to perform nor did she decline. She’d give an organ to perform at the Super Bowl.
Hope you guys enjoyed this post! Let me know what you think in the comments down below!
